Jazbina pri Podturnu, 8350 Dolenjske Toplice
Jazbina, literally meaning "the badger`s sett" or burrow, is a large horizontal underground karst cave with two halls, interesting and explored already in the late 19th century. It is 123 meters long and 39 meters deep.
Without proper equipment and guidance, the indoor tour is not safe. The cave is an important refuge for bats and part of the Natura 2000 protected area, so we do not visit it in summer and winter.
it is a fossil spring cave above the Obrh spring at the foot of Pogorelec near Podturn pri Dolenjskih Toplicah. It was formed along a local fracture, clearly visible especially in the entrance part. With the lowering of the erosion base and tectonic processes, the water flow of the Obrh retreated to the depth, to the level of the current source. The 120 m long training ground begins with a spacious entrance tunnel, which the Auerspergs converted into a cold storage room of the nearbySoteska Manorin 1867. After 50 meters, it passes into a difficult-to-pass erosion tunnel that leads to the Dripstone Hall at the end of the cave.
Jazbina is one of the more famous caves in the lower Carniola region, as the otherwise walled entrance can be seen directly from the regional road. It was already mentioned by Valvasor, explored in 1875 and registered in 1928. In 1990 cavers discovered a ceiling chasm that opens in the slope above the cave and leads to the hall.
Puhavnik or "blow-pipe" is a place where air blows from the earth from the lower-lying Jazbina. It is warmer in winter and cooler in summer than the surrounding area.
Jazbina and Puhavnik are two points of the Rožek Nature Learning Trail.
