Podstenice Beekeeping Centre is managed by Beekeepers Society Starža-Dolenjske Toplice. It has a 117-year tradition and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2006. Very productive forest bee pastures in this area attract numerous beekeepers from the whole of the country. The beekeeping centre at Podstenice yearly organizes numerous events, which include meetings, hostings, beekeeping and herbalism workshops, exhibitions, extracurricular activities for schools and is also a starting point of many excurtions in the local area. Pogorelec Dormouse Lodge is managed by Dormouse Society POLH and is a centre of diverse activity. Here visitors can learn interesting information about different species of dormouse and a collection of old dormouse traps. Dormouse trapping has been a tradition here for more than a century and the society`s goal is to preserve that cultural heritage. This was one of the most typical farmers` hunting endeavours in Slovenia. On the nearby 2 kilometers long loop Dormouse Trail visitors can learn about dormice habitat and other interesting facts about these animals at the 13 points of interest. The trail leads through a formerGottscheevillage of Pogorelec and mighty forests of Kočevski rog, by Podstenice sinkhole and 118 meters deep Ahnenloch karst chasm. Kočevski rog Environmental Scout Centre is an area for developing and passing on environmental education based on scout method and according to scout values. It is aknowledged as an important environmental centre and a quality trademark of environmental education. Environmental Scout Centre is intended for girl guides and boy scouts and connecting with related organisations and local community. It offers the following activities: summer and winter scout camps, meetings of scout leaders, educational programs for scout leaders, scout school of living with nature and workshops. The entirely renovated house offers 40 beds, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room, a big community room, 4 bunkrooms, toilets and showers.
