Gottscheer Altsiedler Verein Museum is located at Gottscheer Altsiedler Verein society adress. It was founded in 1992 with a central goal to protect cultural heritage of the longest living ethnic minority in the country. Gottschee Germans have been living in this area since the 14th century, for more than 600 years. During Second World War many left their dwellings and scattered around the world.
Opened to view (by previous appointment only) are the collections of Gottschee artefacts and miniature models of historic settlements, which don`t exist anymore in present day. The society also endeavours to preserve old fruit tree varieties, cultivated by Gottschee Germans in the past. To achieve this a seed bank has been founded, which is located next to the museum. The memory of Gottschee settlers is kept through various projects and cultural events, the main multiple-day event being Gottschee Culture Days, traditionally held by one of the three municipalities, where they have settled.
